Mr Derrick Siau

I am a UK-trained ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon who graduated from the University of Cambridge. I treat a wide range of ENT conditions and always aim to provide care that is tailored to each individual. I believe in exploring conservative treatment options before considering surgery, and I work closely with my patients to create a personal treatment plan based on both their condition and their individual circumstances.

My interest in surgery began while I was a medical student, when I spent time at Kuching and Miri General Hospitals in Borneo. During this experience, I developed a particular interest in ear, nose and throat surgery.

I began my surgical training in Manchester, including working at Manchester Royal Infirmary, before joining the ENT training programme in Manchester. I worked as an ENT registrar from 2008 to 2014, gaining broad experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ENT conditions.

In 2014, I completed six months of advanced rhinology training under the guidance of Mr John de Carpentier. This allowed me to further develop my expertise in treating nasal allergies, sinus disease, tear duct obstruction and nasal deformities.

My special clinical interests include nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis, as well as ear conditions such as ear infections, hearing loss, problems affecting the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and vertigo. I also treat throat problems, including patients who may require tonsillectomy, and I have an interest in voice disorders.

I have been recognised as a specialist in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery by both the Specialist Advisory Committee and the General Medical Council. I was awarded my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in August 2014.

Alongside my clinical work, I am passionate about teaching and education. I am heavily involved with Edge Hill University, where I work as an Honorary Senior Lecturer on the postgraduate MSc course. I also regularly take part in clinical audits and carefully review the outcomes of surgery performed for my patients. My aim is always to provide high-quality, safe healthcare that is centred around the needs of each individual patient.
