I am a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant colorectal conditions. Following Higher Surgical Training on the Manchester Rotation, I completed an Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
My practice focuses on colorectal cancer surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic procedures, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programmes. As an experienced robotic colorectal surgeon, I have been actively involved in developing robotic colorectal services within my Trust. Robotic surgery is an integral part of my practice, particularly for complex rectal cancer and pelvic surgery, where enhanced precision can help optimise both oncological and functional outcomes.
I have a particular interest in the management of early rectal cancer and complex colorectal polyps, including Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS), which can allow selected patients to avoid more extensive surgery.
I treat the full range of colorectal conditions, including colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, and pilonidal disease. I offer a comprehensive range of haemorrhoid treatments, tailoring management to each patient's individual needs.
I am also a highly experienced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopist, performing gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy in both NHS and independent practice. I undertake more than 500 colonoscopies and over 60 major colorectal resections each year.
Alongside my clinical practice, I serve as Clinical Lead for General Surgery, providing leadership in service development, clinical governance, workforce planning, and quality improvement. I am committed to modernising surgical services and delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
I have a strong interest in surgical education and training. As a member of the Health Education North West Higher Surgical Training Committee and an accredited endoscopy trainer, I regularly supervise surgical trainees and fellows. In recognition of my contribution to education, I was awarded the Health Education North West Excellence in Training Award.
In addition, I provide independent medicolegal expert reports for claimant and defendant cases involving colorectal and general surgery. My reports are prepared in accordance with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules and are founded on balanced, objective, and evidence-based opinion.
My approach combines advanced surgical expertise, clear communication, and compassionate patient care, with a commitment to innovation, education, and continuous improvement in surgical practice.
