I trained in general surgery at Cardiff, Bristol and in the South West where I developed a specialist interest in gastrointestinal and endocrine surgery.

I have been a proponent of pioneering advanced techniques and procedures in laparoscopic minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery for the treatment of upper gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases. SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), a new cutting edge laparoscopic technique has been introduced for gallstones and weight loss surgery.

I have received many prestigious grants and have several book chapters on the management of thyroid diseases in major surgical textbooks and surgical journals. After my research I returned to Cardiff and underwent further specialist training in endocrine surgery encompassing complicated thyroid diseases (benign, cancer and re-do surgery), parathyroidectomy and adrenal (laparoscopic) surgery as well as rare islet pancreatic tumours.

I provide a comprehensive surgical service with specialist treatment for gallstones including advanced laparoscopic treatment for stones in the bile duct, gastro-oesophageal (acid) reflux disease, weight loss surgery, splenectomy and hernia. Also I am one of a handful of UK specialists who provides surgical care for the full spectrum of endocrine surgical diseases especially in complicated and re-do neck surgery.

I offer the Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) for removing the gallbladder for gallstones. This offers the benefits of almost invisible scars, the opportunity of less pain, and shorter recovery periods. I also offer laparoscopic treatment for all types of hernia surgery (inguinal, sportsmanā€™s/ Gilmoreā€™s groin, femoral, incisional, epigastric, umbilical). I also offer laparoscopic abdominal wall component separation for abdominal wall reconstruction following abdominal wall failure or complex giant abdominal hernia.

I am part of the team that offers treatment and decompression surgery for Pudendal Nerve entrapment. This is a rare condition and we have been an established unit in UK with many yearsā€™ experience.

Consultant gastrointestinal surgeon, Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, Bristol.

I have four boys, two beautiful daughters and recently two gold fishes due to our King Charles Spaniel sadly passing away. I was forced into early retirement from windsurfing due to the arrival of my children. Luckily, in between the nappy changes, I managed to smuggle my skis to safety and transplanted them to my children. To occupy myself between skiing, dreaming about the slopes, I keep a very close eye on rugby, grand prix and the highs and lows of British tennis.
