MD, FRCS
I have been a consultant Urological Surgeon for 12 years and currently practicing at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. I completed my specialist urological training in the Northwest Deanery in 2014 and was awarded the CCT accreditation.
I subsequently gained further specialist experience in kidney disease and robotic surgery at centres in, Strasbourg and Würzburg, becoming one of the highest-volume surgeons for robotic kidney surgery in the Northwest. I am actively involved in mentoring consultants and trainees in robotic partial nephrectomy.
I am also an active member of the endometriosis multidisciplinary team at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester, where I provide minimally invasive surgery for complex endometriosis involving the bladder or ureters.
I practise all aspects of general urology, including the management of prostatic disease, recurrent urinary tract infections, overactive bladder, haematuria, and scrotal surgery.
I have a sub-specialist interest in robotic and laparoscopic kidney and ureteric surgery, including partial or radical nephrectomy for kidney cancer or benign disease, robotic surgery for pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction or kidney stones, ureteric reimplantation, and the management of urological complications related to endometriosis.
To date, I have performed nearly 1,000 robotic kidney surgeries, along with over 1,000 endoscopic procedures for prostate and bladder pathology. I regularly audit my outcomes and contribute to the national audit database of the British Association of Urological Surgeons.
I am the primary investigator for a national kidney cancer study, the PARTIAL trial, and I lead patient recruitment at Manchester Foundation Trust to achieve the best possible surgical outcomes for individuals with kidney cancer.
I am a Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester and led the undergraduate teaching in surgery for seven years. I also lead the kidney cancer module for the Northwest Urology MSc programme.
I am a qualified educational supervisor, having completed postgraduate medical education training in 2014, and I was honoured to be recognised as the Northwest Urology Trainer of the Year in 2021.
I am an active researcher with over 40 publications, two book chapters, and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. I completed my research doctorate (MD with honours) at the University of Hull following an intensive study of multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging in prostate cancer. My research focuses on optimising diagnostic and treatment pathways to enhance patient care and improve surgical outcomes.
