Mr Ashwin Kulkarni
MBBS, D(Ortho), DNB(Ortho), MRCS, FRCS(Tr & Ortho), PG Cert Ed
My special interests are in hip surgery in both young and elderly patients, including hip replacement, hip resurfacing, hip revision surgery, hip arthroscopy, surgery for impingement syndrome, knee replacement, knee revision and arthroscopy of the knee for soft tissue pathology.
On average, each year I perform in excess of 80 hip arthroscopy cases, 60 knee arthroscopy cases, 135 hip replacements, 80 knee replacements and 20 hip revision surgical cases.
I am also involved in under-graduate and post-graduate medical training and developed UKITE, a self assessment test of orthopaedic knowledge for specialist orthopaedic trainees which benchmarks participants knowledge against that of their peer group.
I completed my medical qualification in India, specialising in orthopaedics which particularly interested me because of the significant difference surgery made to my patients. I undertook higher surgical training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and completed fellowships in Toronto, Canada and the UK.
I am Editor in Chief for Wikipaedics (BOA).
