Specialises in
I specialise in spinal trauma, complex degenerative spine surgery including for the neck and back and treatments for herniated discs (disc prolapse) alongside spinal fusion and minimally-invasive spinal surgery. I use various spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, open and minimally invasive fixation techniques, including cementation, for managing my patients.
I completed my higher specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics on the Welsh Rotation and was awarded FRCS in 2012. I also completed an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University and use the deeper understanding of mechanical principles in treating my patients.
After gaining spinal surgical training in Cardiff, I completed an accredited fellowship at the prestigious Spinal Unit in Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham where I gained extensive experience in all aspects of spinal management, especially adult spinal deformity, metastatic spinal pathology, microscopic and minimally invasive surgery. I also trained with spinal neurosurgeons furthering my understanding of the spinal pathology from both an orthopaedic and neurosurgical perspective. I was awarded a travelling fellowship to the world renowned Spinal Unit at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong.
I objectively assess the outcomes of my interventions using PROMs (Patients Reported Outcome Measures). I work as a full-time NHS consultant at Royal Gwent Hospital and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
