Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon

I am a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sheffield Medical School. My private practice is at Spire Claremont Hospital.
I have a large experience in laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease with excellent results. I am a skilled endoscopist and perform >500 procedures per year (gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy). I have considerable experience of treating haemorrhoids using latest techniques (THD, HALO) and other anal conditions including skin tags, fissures, fistula in ano. I perform all types of hernia repair (umbilical, inguinal, incisional, recurrent) with excellent results.
I qualified from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2000. I spent two years in clinical research at St James’s Hospital Leeds and was awarded the prestigious Bert Inman Fellowship grant and an MD from the University Of Leeds.
My Higher Surgical Training was in Yorkshire where I trained in all aspects of general and colorectal surgery. I subsequently completed two specialist colorectal fellowships in Australia at renowned centres. My first fellowship was at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide working with Professor David Wattchow who is well known for his excellent outcomes after complex colorectal cancer surgery. My second fellowship was at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide with the pioneering laparoscopic colorectal surgeon Professor Peter Hewett and gained extensive experience of advanced laparoscopic surgery. As a result, I have expertise in a wide range of general and colorectal surgery.
I am actively involved in clinical research and teaching and training of medical students and am the Phase 2 Lead for the Sheffield Medical School. I teach on the Masters in Surgery degree course at the University of Edinburgh.
