Mr Andrew Drakeley

I'm a Consultant Gynaecologist with a special interest in assisted conception, fertility preservation, viral discordancy and have been instrumental in introducing egg sharing to Liverpool. I'm also the regional lead clinician for egg donation. Substantive appointment in 2005 as consultant gynaecologist at the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to clinical director for gynaecology and Hewitt Fertility Centre.

I offer a wide range of treatments including general gynaecology with a focus on all aspects of reproductive medicine and related surgery, including laparoscopic procedures (keyhole) and male testicular sperm extraction. Assisted conception: all aspects including IVF/ICSI, egg and sperm donation, fertility preservation, surrogacy, recurrent miscarriage.

I have a weekly NHS operating list including laparoscopic procedures including ovarian and Fallopian tubal work, Abdominal hysterectomy and myomectomy and Hysteroscopic removals of polyps and fibroids.

I am a Clinical Director at the Hewitt Fertility Centre (since 2015) and Gynaecology (since 2018). Clinical budget holder for over £25m / year. I am also involved in teaching and training with Liverpool and Edge Hill Universities for medical students, research MD postgraduates, advanced nurse practitioners and doctors.

In 1996, I undertook a research post investigating recurrent pregnancy loss and the menopause, and was awarded my MD doctorate in 2004. In 1997, I worked for 6 months at Coronation Hospital, Johannesburg and then for 8 months at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa as an obstetric and gynaecology registrar. I returned to the Mersey obstetrics and gynaecology rotation in 1998 completing my MRCOG specialty qualification in 1999. From 2002 to 2005, I worked as a subspecialty fellow at the Hewitt Centre for Reproductive Medicine, Liverpool, including sabbaticals to Sydney and Melbourne, Australia to increase my expertise in laparoscopic surgery and assisted conception.
