Mr Andrew Cottam

I am a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Spire Southampton Hospital who specialises in surgical and non-operative treatment of all back and neck conditions. My private practice concentrates on minimally invasive techniques where possible and I believe in a multi disciplinary approach, as I work very closely with physiotherapists, radiologists and pain specialists.

I perform a full range of spinal operations including injections, vertebroplasty, cervical disc replacement and fusions, lumbar decompression and fusion and, microdiscectomy.

I grew up in Dorset and studied medicine at the University of Nottingham. I completed my basic surgical training at Queens Medical Centre. I moved back to the south coast to undertake my orthopaedic training in the Wessex region before obtaining my FRCS in 2017, winning the Gauvain Research prize in in the same year.

My spinal training has taken place across the world with fellowship training in both adult and paediatric spinal surgery at world renowned centres in Australia, the USA, Southampton and Frimley. After completing a prestigious fellowship at Westmead Children’s Hospital and the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, I returned to the UK and took my first consultant appointment at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
