I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital and Spire King’s Lynn Clinic, specialising in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of hip and knee conditions, with a particular interest in sports injuries and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery. I care for patients from Cambridge, King’s Lynn and across the East of England.
My clinical practice focuses on hip and knee surgery, including major knee ligament reconstruction such as ACL and PCL reconstruction, hip arthroscopy, treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), joint preservation procedure, stem cell therapy and cartilage regeneration techniques. I also manage tendon degeneration and tears related to both sporting and degenerative conditions.
I undertake modern joint replacement surgery of hip and knee in patients with advanced arthritis where joint preservation is not possible. I offer total and partial replacement of the joints, including robotic-assisted surgery.
I completed my basic surgical and specialist training in orthopaedic and trauma surgery in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Deanery, where I was awarded the Kreibich Prize. I had a fellowship in orthopaedic and trauma surgery presented to me by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I also hold a master's degree in orthopaedics. In addition, I hold MPhil Degree from the University of Cambridge where I read at the Darwin College.
Following completion of specialist training, I undertook two fellowships at distinguished centres of excellence. The first fellowship was with Mr Richard Villar in hip arthroscopy in London, UK, where I learned pioneering techniques in hip preservation surgery. The second fellowship was at an Orthopaedic Centre in Adelaide, Australia, which is world-renowned for knee and hip arthroscopy treatment, sports injury and joint replacement. On my return, I took up a NHS consultant post at the James Cook University Hospital, Teesside, before joining the Richard Villar Practice, a full-time independent practice.
The ethos of my practice is to provide high quality, patient-centred care while tailoring the treatment to each individual patient, based on the best available evidence, which may include surgical or non-operative treatment.
