I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Spire Leeds Hospital and Spire Harrogate Clinic. I have been working as a consultant ophthalmologist in the UK for about five years. I was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at St James University Hospital, Leeds and Honorary Lecturer of Ophthalmology at Leeds University May 2021. I am an expert in the management of complex and challenging cataract cases, using premium and multifocal intraocular lenses, I am also an experienced laser and lens refractive surgeon.

I offer a comprehensive range of ophthalmic care, including the management of conditions such as blepharitis, dry eye, keratoconus, and recurrent corneal erosion syndrome, as well as treatments for corneal scarring using both medical and laser approaches. It also includes advanced surgical procedures like corneal transplantation, including techniques such as DMEK and DALK, alongside pterygium excision surgery. In addition, specialised care is provided for paediatric patients aged 0–18, ensuring a full spectrum of corneal and ocular surface treatments across all age groups.

To date I have performed over 3,000 cataract surgeries, 500 corneal transplants and many laser and lens based refractive surgeries (including corrective and therapeutic).

Following basic and higher specialty training in Egypt at the residency programme of the ophthalmology department, Alexandria University Hospitals, I joined the team at Sussex Eye Hospital in Brighton for a two-and-a-half-year fellowship in cornea and anterior segment diseases where I had combined supervision for my PhD thesis between Alexandria University and Brighton and Sussex University hospitals.

I was awarded a PhD in Ophthalmology by Alexandria University in Egypt studying combined cataract surgery with the novel Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) techniques (2020). I did a Master's of Science in ophthalmology studying the use of the new laser technology in wavefront customised refractive correction of complex eyes. I also completed a fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a fellowship of the Royal College of Edinburgh.

Certified by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as a refractive surgeon through obtaining certificate of laser refractive surgery (CertLRS October 2021). I also act as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in both FRCOphth exams and CertLRS exams. I specialise in corneal transplants surgery including the most advanced endothelial corneal transplants (DMEK) and lamellar corneal transplants (DALK).

I have published more than 25 articles in international peer reviewed journals including three book chapters and one textbook on cataract surgery. I have contributed to national and international courses and workshops on cataract surgery, laser refractive surgery, immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery, anterior lamellar and endothelial keratoplasty techniques.
