Mr Ahmed Abdelmaksoud

Consultant Opthalmic Surgeon

FRCS, FRCOphth, FICO, CertLRS

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Hull Royal Eye Hospital with nearly 20 years of experience in ophthalmology. I specialise in corneal and refractive surgery, while also providing general eye care. My aim is to help improve both vision and overall quality of life through clear, personalised treatment plans.

I have undertaken advanced fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital, a leading UK centre for complex eye conditions. My career has also included international experience in the USA, Egypt, India and the Arabian Gulf, which has broadened my perspective in managing a wide range of eye conditions.

I am accredited in laser refractive surgery and carry out procedures such as LASIK, LASEK and PRK, which are designed to reduce or remove the need for glasses or contact lenses. I also treat corneal scars and perform lens-based vision correction, including cataract surgery and premium lens replacement. To date, I have performed over 1,100 cataract and lens procedures, as well as more than 500 laser treatments across different parts of the eye.

A key part of my practice involves managing common but often uncomfortable conditions such as dry eye and blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelids. I run dedicated clinics where treatment is tailored to each individual. I also provide specialist care for keratoconus, a condition where the cornea becomes thinner and changes shape, including treatments such as corneal cross-linking. In addition, I perform procedures such as pterygium excision to remove abnormal growths on the eye surface.

Alongside my clinical work, I am passionate about education and training. I hold a Master’s degree in Medical Education and contribute as both an examiner and supervisor. This helps me stay up to date and maintain high standards of care for my patients.
