She graduated from medical school in 1992 and completed her postgraduate training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Birmingham. Her training in general obstetrics & gynaecology was followed by training in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery at major laparoscopic training centres in the UK. She has also undertaken a visiting fellowship to the USA to learn laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

She has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and has written a book on the MRCOG examination. She is a senior clinical examiner for  medical students  at Birmingham University.
