I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at St Paul Eye Unit in Liverpool. I have a special interest in cornea, anterior segments, the ocular surface and cataracts.

I offer both surgical and medical treatments for dry eye conditions, keratoconus, complex corneal infections and diseases of the ocular surface. I also offer the full range of full thickness and lamellar corneal transplants including Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) as well as ocular surface reconstruction, amniotic membrane transplants and corneal collagen crosslinking.

I graduated from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where I was also awarded my Medical Doctor (MD) title with great honours for my research work on developing a novel tool for the rapid diagnosis of corneal infections.

I trained in Ophthalmology in Heidelberg, Germany and Lucerne, Switzerland before I joined the Specialist Training Programme in Ophthalmology in the East Midlands. I have become a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists during my UK training and accomplished a trainee selected component in cornea and ocular surface diseases at University Hospitals of Leicester.

Upon completion of training, I then spent intensive further fellowship training in cornea, anterior segments and ocular surface disease with a special focus on corneal transplant surgeries, ocular surface reconstruction procedures and complex cataract surgeries as well as Femtosecond Laser assisted cataract surgeries (FLACS).

In addition to my clinical activities, I also collaborate with the University of Liverpool on translational research projects. I am also an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and I am fluent in English, Arabic and German.
