MBChB, MSc, ChM, FRCS (UGI Surgery)
I have been a consultant bariatric, UGI and general surgeon for 11 years and am an expert in primary and revisional bariatric surgery, anti-reflux surgery, gallbladder surgery and abdominal wall hernia surgery.
I specialise in bariatric surgery offering a variety of primary & revisional procedures such as Roux-en-Y and One Anastomosis gastric bypass surgery, Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery, revisional procedures, gastric banding and removal, intragastric balloon services. I also perform bariatric endoscopy and am skilled in interpreting bariatric radiological investigations. I chair the complex bariatric surgery MDT and am the Associate Medical Director of Phoenix Health.
I also specialise in general surgical procedures such as groin (inguinal & femoral) and abdominal wall (epigastric, paraumbilical & Spigellian) hernias using laparoscopic (keyhole) and open techniques. I manage larger more complex anterior abdominal wall hernias using component separation techniques.
With over 10 years’ experience as a consultant bariatric surgeon and my role as the associate medical director of phoenix health I have thoroughly enjoyed providing bariatric surgery services to both NHS and Private patients throughout the North West of England, Northern Ireland and London. In addition to performing high volume primary and revisional bariatric surgery I also enjoy investigative work as the surgical lead for the complex bariatric surgery MDT, utilising my skills performing bariatric laparoscopy, endoscopy and radiology to diagnose and manage complex post-operative problems in conjunction with the wider bariatric team, (anaesthetists, psychologists, dieticians and specialist nurses). I remain a guest speaker and panel member at national and international bariatric surgery meetings and continue to participate in research collaboratively with the wider community.
I have thoroughly enjoyed expanding the provision of UGI and General Surgery services as the UGI surgery representative for the Medical Advisory Committee at Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital, Chester. With over 10 years’ experience as a consultant surgeon in this field and with collaborations with groups such as The Functional Gut Clinic and InMotion Clinics, I am delighted to be able to offer a comprehensive investigative service managing patients with reflux disease, gallstone disease and a variety of groin and
abdominal wall hernias. Not only do I have a thriving private practice in this area but I participate actively in the successful provision of general surgery services for NHS Wales. I draw in particular on experience gained in Scotland’s leading Teaching Hospitals in both Edinburgh and Glasgow and during the provision of remote and rural general surgery services on both Orkney and the Isle of Lewis.
I pride myself on delivering a caring, professional, patient centred service, with attention to detail and the delivery of excellent post-operative outcomes. I am a clear communicator with a warm and friendly personality.
