Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Vijay Bangar at Spire include:
I was born, brought up and educated in the Midlands. I qualified as a doctor at the University of Birmingham Medical School, graduating in 1991. I completed my postgraduate medical training in Birmingham and Edinburgh. I passed the Membership exams of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) exams in 1994. I then undertook Specialist Training in Diabetes and Endocrinology on the West Midlands Specialist Training Programme.
I was appointed as a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology in April 2001 at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust. I was Lead Clinician in Diabetes and Endocrinology from 2002 until 2012. I was Vice-Chairman of the Medicine and Allied Division at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust from 2007 to 2011, when I took over as Chairman (2011 – present). I was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds (2004 – present). I am involved in interviewing, teaching and examining medical students. I am a Clinical supervisor, and Education supervisor to a number of postgraduate doctors in training.
I was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2005. I am a MRCP examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of London. I undertook a Masters degree (MSc) in Clinical Management at the University of Durham, which I completed in 2009. I am also a member of the British Medical Association.
I have been involved in charity work for many years. I am the founder and Chairman of Slumdoctor Project, a charity that specialises in delivering medical care in the slums of India which has been running “Medical Camps” for over 10 years. I am a Medical advisor to a SantSarwanDass Charitable Hospital in Jalandhar (India), a hospital that now has 250 beds, and has been established and run purely on a charitable basis.
I have a holistic approach to medical practice, understanding that subtle changes in one hormone can have a knock on effect on all hormones, producing a significant impact on well being. I undertake a detailed investigation of hormonal abnormalities, looking for direct and knock on effects at all levels in main hormone systems (for eg TSH, Cortisol, Testosterone) and their sub fractions (for eg FT4, FT3, DHEAS, Androstenedione).
Endocrinology and diabetes mellitus
I have a comprehensive interest in all areas of Diabetes and Endocrinology. This includes the evaluation of pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, gonadal (including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and its complications), Hirsuitism, tiredness and vitamin D. I am also interested in medical treatment for obesity and weight loss.
