I graduated in 1999 and subsequently trained in different centres across the UK from Newcastle to Ipswich. Most of my specialist gastroenterology and hepatology training has been in the liver transplant unit (Freeman hospital, Newcastle) and North West deanery hospitals. I completed my specialist endoscopy training in Australia (Professorial Unit, Royal Adelaide hospital) gaining skills in therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. I also completed advanced nutrition training in the Intestinal Failure Unit (Salford, UK) and Europe (ESPEN).
I was appointed to Blackpool Victoria hospital in 2012, currently leading nutritional service and endoscopic ultrasound and hepato-pancreato-biliary service for the hospital and Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network. I am also a national council member of the UK and Ireland Endoscopic Ultrasound Society and performance assessor for the General Medical Council. I have active research interest in endoscopic ultrasound and clinical nutrition. I am a national endoscopic ultrasound trainer for the UK and college tutor for our teaching hospital. As nutritional lead, I also have special interest in endoscopic treatments for obesity in patients accessing Tier III and similar services for weight loss.
Special clinical interests: Pancreatic disease; Colonic microbiota and neurophysiology/motility; Dyspepsia barrett's oesophagus and advanced endoscopic therapy; Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and role of dietary modifications; Chronic abdominal pain; Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); Gastrointestinal cancer; Bariatric endoscopy.
