I am a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in hand and peripheral nerve surgery with my NHS practice being based at the Birmingham Hand Centre and Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. I was appointed to this position in 2017.
In my practice I focus on treatment of pain and paralysis in the hand as well as upper and lower limbs. This includes treatment of long-standing pain after an injury or an operation, treatment of trapped nerves (carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes) and treatment for loss of movement and feeling in upper and lower extremity. I also treat other conditions affecting the hand, such as arthritis, trigger finger and Dupuytren's contracture. I have a deep interest in research and in bringing the newest treatments into my practice for patients to benefit from.
I specialise in hand surgery and nerve surgery with particular expertise in the following hand surgery - arthritis, trigger finger, Dupuytren's contracture, surgery for trapped nerves in the upper limb (carpal and cubital tunnel) and lower limb (peroneal and tarsal tunnel), chronic pain after an injury or operation, pain after previous surgery for trapped nerves, nerve tumours, brachial plexus injuries, nerve pain after limb amputation - targeted muscle reinnervation, acute and chronic nerve injuries treatment, muscle paralysis treatment by nerve and tendon transfers.
My education and training includes graduating with Doctor of Medicine (high honours) from the University of P J Safarik in Slovakia in 1999, PhD in Neurobiology focusing on repair of spinal cord and nerve injuries from the Osaka University in Japan in 2005, basic surgery and specialist plastic surgery training in Manchester between 2006 – 2016.
I have one year fellowship training in reconstructive microsurgery and treatment of brachial plexus paralysis in the world-renowned centre in Ogori Daiichi Hospital in Japan, one year fellowship training in peripheral nerve and hand surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham. My postgraduate Diploma in Hand Surgery is from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2018.
The success of the treatment in my practice relies on bringing together specialists from all the fields involved in diagnosing and treating hand and nerve-related conditions to provide excellence and innovation to our patients. The care we provide is consultant-led every step of the way and is arranged in the most flexible and cost-effective way that exceeds patient expectations.
