I am a consultant cardiologist with 15 years of experience. I combine specialist expertise in inherited cardiac conditions, heart failure and advanced cardiac rhythm management, enabling me to provide comprehensive care throughout every stage of a patient's journey. My practice is centred on providing seamless continuity of care as patients' needs evolve over time, from establishing a diagnosis and assessing inherited risk within families to long-term management and advanced therapies, including device implantation where required. I provide genetic testing for individuals and families affected by inherited cardiac conditions. I also offer comprehensive general cardiology assessments for patients with symptoms including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and blackouts.
I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of inherited cardiac conditions, including cardiomyopathies and inherited arrhythmias, working closely with patients and their families to develop personalised treatment plans. I also provide diagnostic genetic testing, as well as comprehensive family screening for relatives at risk of inherited heart disease. I also have expertise in diagnosing and managing all forms of heart failure, from newly diagnosed disease to advanced heart failure requiring complex therapies. As patients' conditions evolve, I provide the full spectrum of advanced cardiac device therapies, including pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, S-ICDs and contemporary conduction system pacing techniques. My expertise in inherited cardiac conditions and heart failure allows me to identify patients most likely to benefit from device therapy and provide seamless care before, during and after implantation.
To date, I have performed over 2,000 device implants during a 10-year career in the NHS. This includes more than 1,000 pacemaker implants, over 500 box changes, more than 250 defibrillator and cardiac resynchronisation therapy device implants, and nearly 100 conduction system pacing implants. I am also highly experienced in implantable loop recorder implantation. I pride myself on being a safe and considered operator, with a low personal complication rate.
I am Lead for Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) at University Hospitals Sussex, where I have set up and developed a local specialist ICC service for patients in Sussex. I am also Co-Chair of the Cardiomyopathy UK Sussex Support Group, working closely with patients and families affected by cardiomyopathy to improve support, understanding and access to specialist care. I am also passionate about education and am the educational lead for cardiology at the Royal Sussex County hospital, holding the position of College Tutor for Cardiology.
