I am an internationally trained clinical academic, consultant cardiac surgeon. I offer treatments for the entire spectrum of adult cardiac surgical disease including complex coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease (mitral, aortic and tricuspid), surgery for atrial fibrillation and left atrial appendage occlusion. I have a special interest in surgery for complex diseases of the aortic organ including aortic valve repairs and replacement, aortic root and aortic arch surgery and aortic dissections.
I can offer advice on both open heart surgery and percutaneous options for diseases of the aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves (repair/ replacement/ percutaneous wire options) to help make informed treatment decisions.
I also offer individualised treatments with full clinical support from our team of clinicians, associates and multidisciplinary groups for complex patients including; patients with diabetes, patients >80 years of age, very high risk cases turned down for treatment renal failure, dialysis dependent, prior renal transplant patients, previous failed operations and redo surgeries.
I offer bloodless treatments for Jehovah’s Witness patients in accordance with their beliefs and personal support from their affiliated bodies. I offer second opinions on all matters. And encourage shared decision making with patients and their families.
I am a consultant cardiac surgeon at University Hospital Southampton and an associate professor at University of Southampton. I completed fellowships in UK (Oxford, London), US (Harvard) and Australia with experience in all aspects of complex cardiac surgery including adult congenital cardiac surgery and heart/lung transplantation.

I am a GMC registered national trainer in cardiac surgery. I also serves as medical examiner at UHS. I am involved in clinical research/audit with over 130 publications in the fields of cardiac surgery outcomes for coronary bypass surgery and valve surgery, aortic dissection, diabetes in cardiac surgery and efficiency of surgical care pathways.
I am a reviewer for various grant committees and journals and has been a national and international technical advisor on adoption of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and a technical advisor to NICE, to support guidance for new interventional procedures introduced in UK. I am also an investigator on a number of national and international clinical trials and registries and passionate about patient empowerment and shared decision making.
