I am a Consultant Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiologist with extensive experience in the management of heart rhythm disorders. I routinely implant both simple and complex cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators and was responsible for initiating the implantation of subcutaneous defibrillators at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre.
As part of my electrophysiology practice, I offer catheter ablation for a wide range of cardiac rhythm abnormalities. This includes treatment for supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardia and accessory pathway‑related arrhythmias. I also have a specialist interest in the assessment and management of patients presenting with blackouts and unexplained syncope.
I qualified in India and undertook specialist training in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at University Hospitals Birmingham, University Hospitals of North Staffordshire in Stoke‑on‑Trent, and University Hospital Leicester. I was appointed to the Lancashire Cardiac Centre in 2010 and have since played a key role in the development of an advanced interventional electrophysiology and arrhythmia service.
Alongside my clinical work, I have published research focusing on cardiac pacing in patients with heart failure.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Shajil Chalil at Spire include:

Atrial fibrillation Cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with heart failure
