I am a Consultant Rheumatologist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead the Early Inflammatory Arthritis Service, in a centre that was awarded the European centre of excellence award (EULAR) in 2015.
I set up the Wessex Rheumatology Clinic to offer patients a unique, efficient, and comprehensive service to diagnose and effectively manage any musculoskeletal condition, with the aim of improving symptoms and optimizing quality of life.
I am an expert in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), crystal arthritis (gout and pseudogout), osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, neck and back pain, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases such as lupus.
I completed an MSc in musculoskeletal ultrasound to support my interest in the use of ultrasound in detecting and treating inflammatory arthritis earlier to achieve disease remission and improve outcomes.
I also perform ultrasound-guided joint and soft tissue injections, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and safety for my patients.
I am the lead for the Early Inflammatory Arthritis service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to my clinical work, I am actively involved in research having published Cochrane systematic literature reviews and international guidelines on the management of Gout and more recently have co-written national guidelines on the safety of biological therapies in inflammatory arthritis for the British Society of Rheumatology. I am also involved in clinical trials research into new therapies including biological therapies for the treatment of inflammatory arthritis.
