Liver, bile duct, kidney and pancreas treatments
I graduated from Southampton University Medical School in 1987. I trained first in general medicine and then in gastroenterology and hepatology. Much of my training was in Yorkshire both in Leeds and the surrounding area. I studied for a PhD at Leeds University in the field of molecular biology and gastroenterology and was awarded my thesis in 2002.
I was appointed as a consultant in gastroenterology/hepatology in Coventry and Birmingham in 1999. For a five year period I worked in both general gastroenterology and also set up a specialist hepatology service. However, I was keen to return to Leeds when the opportunity became available in 2005. Having worked in different centres as a consultant, I have a broad experience in gastroenterology/hepatology, along with endoscopic interests which include enteroscopy and endoscopic ultrasound of the GI tract (oesophageal, gastric and pancreaticobiliary).
I am a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. I regularly lecture to medical students, GI trainees, general practitioners and patient support groups.

I am married to Helen, a liver transplant nurse specialist at St James' University Hospital, Leeds. My main interests outside medicine involve sport. A former international runner, I still travel to watch sports events both locally and internationally. I enjoy participating in running, cycling and squash events. I am also a keen pub quiz participant and enjoy hill walking with my dog 'Ronnie the Retriever'. In quieter moments I enjoy reading and gardening.Back to top
