I see and treat patients with all chronic pain conditions. My specialist interests are spinal pain (low back, thoracic and neck pain), chronic pelvic pain, cancer pain, radiofrequency neurotomy and pulsed radiofrequency procedures. I offer a wide range of interventional techniques for painful conditions. Most interventions are carried out as day-case procedures under X-ray control, using an image intensifier in order to ensure minimal X-ray exposure to patients. I combine interventions for chronic pain with instruction in pain management techniques, and work closely with specialist physiotherapists and colleagues to offer a comprehensive pain service.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1992. After qualification, I worked in hospitals in Glasgow and Ayrshire, completing early medical training. In 1998 I commenced specialist training in anaesthesia and pain medicine, based in Cambridge and working in hospitals throughout East Anglia. On completion of specialist training, I was appointed a Fellow in Pain Management at St Bartholomews Hospital in London. I currently work at Addenbrooke's Hospital and the Arthur Rank Hospice, Cambridge and have practising privileges at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.

I was appointed Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, since 2004. I am currently secretary of the Anglian Pain Society.

Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management, Addenbrooke's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge

I live in Cambridge with my wife and three young children. I am an enthusiastic amateur musician and play the guitar and piano. I very much enjoy a number of sports, and am an accomplished skier, a keen footballer and a dreadful, but passionate, golfer. Although I live in Cambridgeshire, I miss being close to the mountains and try to hill climb in Scotland whenever I have the opportunity.
