Dr Karthik Ramaraj

Consultant General Paediatrician

MBBS

I am a substantive consultant paediatrician at James Paget University Hospital and a fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, bringing fifteen years of dedicated clinical experience in child health to my private clinics at Spire Norwich Hospital. I specialise in providing comprehensive, expert general paediatric care for infants, children and young people across Norfolk, offering a trusted point of contact for a wide spectrum of routine, acute and complex childhood medical presentations. Alongside my broad general practice, I hold a special interest in paediatric epilepsy and neurology enabling me to offer expert guidance on childhood seizures and unexplained funny turns when required. I am fully committed to delivering unhurried, evidence-based and family-centred care that ensures a seamless, supportive and safe continuation of trusted medical care for all families throughout the East Anglian region.

Within my general clinics I routinely evaluate and manage childhood feeding difficulties, recurrent infections, respiratory issues including asthma, sleep settling concerns and common gastrointestinal complaints such as chronic abdominal pain, reflux, and constipation. I also support families with initial general developmental concerns, offering standard medical assessments for delayed milestones or early school-age behavioural worries to help clarify if further specialised community pathways are required.

Throughout my fifteen years of dedicated child health practice I have focused on providing comprehensive, consultant-led care for families. My postgraduate background includes earning my DCH and DNB qualifications through structured training programmes at large teaching institutions, including Madras Medical College in India, alongside contributing to published paediatric clinical research. Upon moving to the UK, I completed a fellowship in general paediatrics and paediatric neurology at Nottingham University Hospital. Following this, I practised for several years in Yorkshire—a comprehensive tenure that incorporated specialised clinical placements across healthcare trusts, refining my clinical framework and ability to deliver meticulous assessments.

Alongside my direct clinical practice, I am the local lead for the national Epilepsy12 audit at James Paget University Hospital, a role where I oversee clinical benchmarking and maintain high standards of safety and care quality for childhood seizure disorders across the trust. I am actively engaged in broader hospital governance and service development. Committed to evidence-based practice, I participate in clinical audits and focus heavily on reviewing clinical guidelines and safeguarding processes to consistently optimize care delivery and patient outcomes.

My practice is built on a strong foundation of extensive clinical experience and years of dedicated UK practice, focusing entirely on empathy, clinical safety, and confident reassurance for families.
