I look after patients with a wide range of heart conditions, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, and abnormal heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation. I diagnose and manage common heart problems such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, heart murmurs, heart failure, and reduced heart function, helping patients understand their condition and treatment options clearly.
I have particular experience in coronary artery disease, including heart attacks (myocardial infarction), coronary artery spasm, and conditions affecting the smaller heart vessels. Treatments may include coronary artery stenting and care for complex blockages such as chronic total occlusions.
I also manage heart valve disease, including aortic valve stenosis, cardiomyopathy, inflammation of the heart or its lining (such as myocarditis and pericarditis), and infections of the heart valves (endocarditis). In addition, I provide heart monitoring with ECGs and implantable loop recorders (LINQ), and offer pre‑operative heart assessments to ensure patients are safely optimised before surgery.
Having qualified in medicine from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2003, previously completed a BSc in Physiology at University College London in 2001. My postgraduate medical training was undertaken across several leading London teaching hospitals and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2007 and completed a Research Doctorate (MD (Res)) at King’s College London in 2012 under the supervision of Professor Sanjay Sharma.
My doctoral research explored the cardiac response to exercise in Afro-Caribbean athletes and helped shape my ongoing specialist interest in cardiomyopathy, particularly the distinction between physiological athletic adaptation and underlying cardiac disease.
I am a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospital Southampton, where I have worked since 2016. I completed my Interventional cardiology training at University Hospital Southampton and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. I have been published widely on cardiac adaptation to exercise and complex coronary intervention and am a regular faculty member at national and international cardiology meetings. Previously I have served as Regional Lead for Heart Valve Disease on the Southeast Regional Network Board and continue to contribute at a national level as a core committee member of Valve for Life.
Alongside my clinical and academic work, I am a keen athlete, having competed at national and international levels in triathlon and athletics. My sporting achievements include a top ten age-group finish at the ½ IRONMAN UK Championships in 2023. Outside of work, I enjoy cycling and running, when time allows, and is often found supporting my two sons from the sidelines at their sporting events.
