I am a Consultant Respiratory Physician with more than 25 years’ experience caring for people with a wide range of lung and breathing conditions. I regularly see patients with symptoms such as breathlessness, chronic cough or recurrent chest infections, and I place great importance on helping patients understand their diagnosis and feel involved in decisions about their care.
My practice covers complex and common respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD (emphysema), bronchiectasis, pneumonia, lung nodules and lung cancer, as well as pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis and other fibrotic lung diseases. I also have particular expertise in asbestos‑related lung conditions and mesothelioma, and I work as a medical expert witness in cases involving occupational lung disease. I do not see referrals for sleep‑related conditions.
At Spire, I work closely with a specialist respiratory physiologist, which often allows lung function tests to be carried out during the same visit. I also have rapid access to X‑ray and CT scanning and collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple specialties to ensure timely and joined‑up care.
My NHS practice is based at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, where I am Clinical Director for Medical and Acute Specialties. I am actively involved in professional leadership within respiratory medicine and remain committed to providing evidence‑based, high‑quality care that keeps patients’ wishes at the centre.
Outside of work, I enjoy golf, playing the guitar and skiing—and I am a long‑suffering Liverpool FC season ticket holder.
