I am the administrative partner for the private group Wessex Cardiology.

I treat all aspects of interventional and general cardiology and in my private practice I see patient and provide treatment for atrial fibrillation, chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fainting and I also have echocardiography experience and can implant permanent pacemakers and implantation of loop recorders (LINQ).

My specialist area's of interest are Coronary intervention, including complex coronary intervention, rotablation and treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTOs) i.e. arteries that have been blocked a long time). As well as Mitral valve repair, renal denervation (RDN) to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

I have been a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) since July 2011, where I run NHS lists, clinics and on-call for the heart attack service.

I qualified in 1995 from St George's Hospital Medical School, where I was President of the student union. I completed my intercalated BSc at St Mary's Hospital Medical School in 1994. And did house jobs and general professional training in London, obtaining my MRCP qualification in 1999. My specialist registrar training in Cardiology was on the NE Thames rotation from 2000 to 2010, where I obtained my certificate of completion of training. I was awarded FRCP in 2014.

I have a strong background in Medical Education and spent a year as an Education Research Fellow at the Royal College of Physicians in 2003, where I was involved in the development of new assessment methods that are now used for doctors in training. I have taught as faculty for the Doctors as Educators programme since 2003. And have an interest in the use of simulators to train cardiologists. I have published in education and regularly peer reviews education papers. I am a Wessex Educational Supervisor and the local lead for simulation based training in cardiology. I have been on various national education committees in Cardiology and regularly organise conferences and courses both locally and nationally. I also completed a PhD in cell biology and I regularly contribute to clinic research at UHS.

I completed my sub-specialist training in intervention at two internationally renowned cardiac units, St Bartholomew's and the London Chest Hospital. I have experience of novel ways of completing day-case work, the development of heart attack services and experience with new interventional techniques. In my final year I also did General Internal Medicine at the Royal London Hospital and am dual accredited in this. And worked as a locum consultant for Barts and the London NHS Trust prior to my appointment at UHS.

Outside of medicine I enjoy spending time with my wife Olive (a physiotherapist) and two girls Annabelle (now a medical student) and Rebecca (doing A levels). I grew up in Cowes (IOW) and have a lifelong love of sailing. I am an experienced yacht racer and have competed in numerous events such as the Fastnet, Transatlantic and Sydney-Hobart races. I now live in Lymington and enjoy getting on or in the water when time allows! I enjoy cycling, hill walking (having trekked in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal), skiing and collecting malt whiskey and wine.
