I am a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust, having qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2002. I completed my specialist training in London and undertook an MD research degree into the use of advanced diagnostic techniques in upper GI disease. My research was presented nationally and internationally and received awards from the BSG, AGA and UEG.

I have a clinical and research interest in upper GI conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), Barrett's oesophagus, and oesophageal motility disorders. I run the GI Physiology lab at St George's Hospital, investigating patients with indigestion and swallowing disorders. 

I specialise in ambulatory impedance-pH monitoring, high resolution oesophageal manometry, bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancer, liver disease, motility disorder and nutrition.

Luminal gastroenterology with expertise in reflux disease, swallowing disorders, dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease and bowel cancer screening.

Experienced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopist. Procedures including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, high resolution oesophageal manometry, ambulatory pH-impedance monitoring.

Specialist Commentator for NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) on Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease.

Dr Hayat is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's Hospital Medical School and is currently supervising an MD research student and participate in a number of multinational research studies.
