Dr Iqtedar Ahmed Muazzam

Consultant Medical Oncologist

MBBS, MRCP (Lon), FCPS (Internal Medicine), FCPS (Medical Oncology)

I am a medical oncologist, which means I treat cancer using medicines such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, anticancer antibodies and hormone (endocrine) treatments. I understand that a cancer diagnosis affects not only the individual but also their loved ones, so I take time to support both my patients and their families. I believe in working in partnership with you, making shared decisions so that your treatment plan feels right for you.

I have been a Consultant in Medical Oncology at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2015. During this time, I have developed expertise in treating breast, ovarian and prostate cancers. I also have a strong interest in the management and research of urological cancers.

In addition to my role in Hull, I work as a visiting medical oncologist at North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. There, I care for patients with lung cancer and skin cancers, including melanoma.

I am actively involved in national clinical studies as an investigator, which allows me to stay up to date with newer cancer treatments and approaches. This helps me offer care that reflects the latest developments in oncology.

Alongside my clinical work, I am the Lead for Acute Oncology Services and Chair of Morbidity and Mortality Reviews at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I am also involved in leading audits and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.

Teaching is an important part of my role. I am an Honorary Lecturer at Hull York Medical School and am passionate about training the next generation of doctors. I organise oncology rotations and provide clinical and educational supervision for trainees in internal medicine, general practice and oncology.

I am fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi, which allows me to communicate with a wide range of patients and help them feel more comfortable and understood during their care.
