I have over 10 years' experience in Pain Medicine and was first appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine in 2007. My training has included a Fellowship in Pain Medicine under the guidance of Professor David Rowbotham (first Dean of The Faculty of Pain Medicine) and Dr Beverly Collett (one of the pioneers of pain medicine).

To enhance my medical training I spent one year in Perth, Australia, which included a period as a medical registrar covering rheumatology. This gave me a great understanding of this very important group of patients who suffer with chronic pain. I spent a further six months in haematology and oncology in London on my return to the UK. It was here that I learned most about the importance of pain management in those patients with sickle cell and cancer-related diseases.

My other treatments include: Back pain/neck pain: radiofrequency denervation, epidurals, transforaminal nerve blocks, complex regional pain syndrome – sympathetic blocks, fibromyalgia: intravenous lidocaine infusions, headaches: greater occipital nerve blocks, cervical facet nerve blocks, Botox, joint pain: radiofrequency denervation of suprascapular nerve and genicular nerves, medication review and advice, muscle/tendon injuries – PRP injections, post-operative chronic pain, preparation for surgery when suffering with chronic pain.

I completed my anaesthetic training in London and Leicester. As a consultant in the Midlands, I provided a full service of intervention and support to the patients and the team at the local St Barnabas Hospice.

I am a founder and member of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, now in its tenth year. I have a deep understanding of all aspects of chronic pain, a great deal of experience in managing it and I also recognise the importance of a holistic approach in the management of chronic pain. I deal with chronic pain of any origin and have a particular interest in back pain, hip/knee and shoulder pain, tendinopathy and complex regional pain syndrome.

I use novel therapies like Botox for migraine, which is NICE approved, platelet therapies for tendon problems and osteoarthritis and Genicular Nerve RF for knee pain. My aim is to prevent back surgery where possible and in relation to this, offer nerve ablation therapies to attempt to prolong pain relief. I want to keep people working or return them to work if possible.

I am published in the area of radio frequency denervation of the supra scapular nerve in shoulder pain and I have done paper presentations at the British Pain Society in the use of intravenous lignocaine infusions for the management of fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain.
