Dr Esmaeil Nikfekr
MD, PhD, MRCP-UK
I specialise in Multiple sclerosis (MS) and inflammatory conditions of the brain and spinal cord. I previously worked at University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) running their Multiple sclerosis service, before moving to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) where I am currently based at Queen’s Medical Centre. During my seven-year tenure at UHL, I was Principle Investigator (PI) for more than 10 national and international clinical trials in Multiple sclerosis.
I have a PhD in Parkinson's disease (PD) from Nottingham University and treat PD patients as well as migraine and headache, using Botulinum toxin injections for chronic migraine based on NHS England licensing criteria. In addition, I deal with a wide range of neurological conditions, and care for patients who suffer from a spectrum of disorders such as epilepsy and neuropathy.
Currently I run both general neurology and MS clinics in the NHS at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre and Mansfield’s King’s Mill Hospital and a private clinic here at Spire Leicester Hospital.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of UK (FRCP-UK) and a member of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN). I have also practised in the medico-legal field since 2015, as an expert in cases with both personal injuries and clinical negligence, and I am a member of The Faculty of Expert Witnesses for Doctors (the FEW). I have been a member of the UK Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) and a registered Data Protection Officer with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) since 2017.
