Dr Deepak Ravindran
Pain Management Consultant
MD, FRCA. FFPMRCA, EDRA. FIPP, DMSMed
I completed my medical degree and then my anaesthesia and pain management residency from one of India’s prestigious teaching hospitals (JIPMER). I was awarded the University Gold medal in anaesthesia and pain management at the time of my graduation.
Pursuing my interest in pain medicine, I moved to the UK and completed my Specialist Registrar training in the Oxford region. I then went on to complete my pain medicine fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and University College Hospital London.
I was appointed to the post of Consultant Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in February 2010.
I firmly believe in the role of early intervention and the appropriate use of multidisciplinary techniques in treating pain disorders. My clinics aim to offer a comprehensive diagnostic and investigative service complemented by good support from the physiotherapy and psychology specialists.
My areas of clinical expertise include treatment of neck and back pain of musculoskeletal and spinal origin, neuropathic pain including CRPS and cancer pain. Along with utilising a full complement of pharmacological treatments, I also perform a variety of interventional procedures such as epidural, facet, sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency lesioning, sympathetic and peripheral nerve blocks using X-ray and ultrasound.
In order to keep abreast of the latest treatment modalities in pain management, I maintain an active membership in the British Pain Society, European Society of Regional Anaesthesia, International Association for the study of Pain (IASP) and British Medical Acupuncture Society. I have regularly presented in both national and international conferences and am keenly interested in promoting high-quality pain education to my patients and other healthcare professionals.
