As a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and devices specialist, my areas of interest include an integrated approach in managing heart rhythm conditions, the management of atrial fibrillation, the role of imaging in electrophysiology and advanced pacing.

At Bristol Medical School, I took an interest in cardiovascular medicine, obtaining merits in the molecular and cellular basis of medicine and cardiovascular medicine. I chose to pursue my medical electives within Cardiology and successfully obtained a placement under Professor Steve Schwartz at the University of Washington's I-Lab. Artherosclerotic plaque classification and identification of fibrous cap thickness measurements for one of the research associates was part of my brief remit over there. Following completion of Medical School, I began my initial junior doctor training in Exeter at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Here I rotated through the various medical specialities and gained membership into the Royal College of Physicians before moving to London to seek a research post specifically looking into cardiac MRI and electrophysiology.

King's College London was setting up the Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences Division and an opening arose in this research field. I was fortunate to work alongside leading MRI physicists, software architects, clinical scientists, clinical cardiologists, and electrophysiologists on a number of projects including robotic catheter ablation, artificial intelligence in a decision support tool in CMR analysis, and Echo-Fluoro overlay hybrid imaging. This proved to be a rewarding time that laid the foundation for my career direction both clinically and academically forging a network of people both nationally and internationally.

My clinical EP and Cardiology training began at Guy’s & St Thomas’ during my clinical research period and continued in the West Midlands with more procedural exposure and was further enhanced during my observerships in Leipzig and Lisbon. I also developed an interest in the autonomic nervous system and arrhythmias and visited the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Throughout my journey, I have maintained good links with the relevant technology developments. I am versatile with abbott's precision, biosense webster's Carto, Boston scientific's rhythm mapping tools and regularly perform Cryo AF ablation.

I have managed to pursue my interest in research. My Honorary Senior Lecturer role at King’s College London has allowed me to continue the work we began a decade ago. Both Multi-Modality Image Overlay and Robotic Assisted Procedures are areas where I am co-supervising candidates working towards their higher degrees. I do believe in the combination of multi-modality imaging pre and during a case with tools such as Intra-Cardiac Echo (ICE) when indicated augmenting a patient’s procedure. I enjoy Preventative Cardiology and discussing Lifestyle Changes through Diet Exercise and Mindful Body Postures in improving both Arrhythmia Outcomes and one’s Cardiology Outlook.

Outside the Clinical Corridors, I am a  Fellow of both the  European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and American College of Cardiology (FACC) and sit on the Committee Member Board for Heart Rhythm Society (US) 2021-2023 and am an External Committee Member for the Air Pollution Sub-Committee Group , World Heart Federation 2021-2022.

Special clinical interests: Arrhythmias including SVT’s, atrial flutters, atrial fibrillation, ventricular ectopies, catheter ablation treatment for the latter conditions and the use of intra-cardiac echo (ICE) when necessary, cardiac device implantations including brady pacing and high energy device implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICD) implantation.

I enjoy reading philosophy across cultures. Some arrhythmias like in life have more questions than answers. Being creative in cooking with access to the world wide web to source out fresh new ingredients complements the cultural culinary fusion theme.
