I was trained at Royal London and St Bartholomew’s hospital in London, where I completed my general medical training and obtained my MRCP UK from Royal College of Physician of the United Kingdom. I then followed this by training at the Royal Marsden, Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and finally Bart’s Health NHS Trust. I obtained my Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Pathologist degree FRCPath and got my certificate of completion of training in Haematology.

I was appointed Consultant Haematologist and Haemato-Oncologist at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2014. I hold the position of Honorary Consultant Haematologist at the University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

I was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) in January 2018 due to my significant contribution to the medical profession both locally and nationally by the Council of Royal College of Physicians. I am currently the lead clinician for Haematology at Southend and also the clinical lead for Haematology and blood transfusion services in Southend and Basildon University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a joint venture with Pathology First.

I am a passionate teacher and hold the position of Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Health Sciences Education, Queen Mary University of London. I am the principle investigator of many national and international studies in non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Hodgkin Lymphoma and non-malignant haematological conditions.

I have a special interest in research and actively participate in various national and international clinical trials. I am an investigator for haematology trials at Southend University Hospital and am also the lead cancer physician for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) at Southend Hospital. I have taken on the challenge to get Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to level 2B services within the Essex Success Regime, in order to make it a centre of clinical excellence. I am actively involved in various local patients support groups and also work as the chairman for the Hospital Transfusion Committee (HTC).

I have passion and enjoy teaching medical students and postgraduate doctors and regularly deliver lectures to junior doctors and general practitioners (GPs). To enhance my teaching skills I have been enrolled to a Masters In Medical Education course with the University College London. I am the trust cancer lead for Teenage and Young Adults (TYA) at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and am the founding Chairman for Janaan Health; a medical charity working to provide life changing procedures in Bangladesh for patients who cannot afford to pay for expensive treatments. I am also the principle investigator and sub-investigator for many national and international clinical trials to discover newer therapy in cancer medicine.

My Collaboration and initiatives:

1. In December 2012 I established a health link between Dhaka Children’s Hospital, Thalassemia Foundation Hospital and Bart’s Health NHS Trust. This established collaboration is used to share knowledge guidelines and to assist with the national policy and screening program for Haemogobinopathy disorders.

2. I established a twinning programme with three major teaching hospital in Dhaka Bangladesh in association with the world Federation of Haemophilia, helping diagnostic pathway guidelines and treatments for haemophilia patients. As a result in January 2012, for the first time, the children in Bangladesh are receiving cryoprecipitate for their bleeding not whole blood.

3. Medical Advisor for BBCH Cancer Hospital, Bangladesh. This is a British charitable cancer hospital, and is the first of its kind in Bangladesh (in my home town). This has provided advice, guidance and support along with other clinical aspects of the services since 2011.

I have a passion for philanthropy and since my graduation I have been dedicated to helping people with disabilities. I have been conducting screening of people in rural Bangladesh helping them to have life changing corrective surgeries and medical treatments via my organisation called Janaan health. So far I have conducted several of these screening programmes through my organisation and have seen more than 16,000 patients and helped provide more than 300 corrective surgeries in both adults and children. I enjoy gardening, cooking Indian food and travelling to gain experiences from different cultures.
