Joan Shaw – Mr Ng, Hip Replacement

Joan Shaw a retired subpostmistress from Normanton first became aware of her hip problems about 10 years ago, over time it became more noticeable.

After seeking help from her local GP, Joan had x-rays carried out and it was diagnosed that she had arthritis. This was no surprise to Joan as all of her family suffer from it.

The options that Joan had were either “medication and suffer pain or hip replacement”.

After been given the choice of hospitals Joan decided to come to Spire Methley Park Hospital to see orthopaedic consultant Mr Ng.

Mr Ng saw Joan for her initial consultation where it was then decided to proceed with surgery.

Joan then went on to have a total hip replacement on 1 August 2017.

“I was very impressed with all the staff, the easy access and the facilities, the operation was very organised.

“Full support from nursing and physio staff.”

Joan’s recovery back at home was “very good. Did all exercises and walked regularly as advised by physio. By four weeks discharged from physio – walking normally.”

In the follow up appointment “Everything good. Mr Ng read reports from hospital staff and was very pleased with every aspect of recovery. Can contact at any time.”

Joan now feels “Excellent.”

The advice Joan would give to people considering surgery is, “ Go for it.”
