Pauline Price started having issues with her right hip in 2014.

“I started to have some pain in my groin area”, said Paula. After seeking advice she was told that the pain may have been due to her carrying some additional weight.

“I consulted my GP in 2015 and had some x-rays which were then followed by some physio at my GP surgery.”

“I was then referred to the musculoskeletal department. Following multiple appointments, X-rays, MRI scan I decided to proceed with the advice I has received from the musculoskeletal department.”

“During the appointment I was diagnosed with an impingement in my right hip and 3 cysts in my hip joint and I required further tests of CT scan MR arthrogram.

“Following the tests, it was confirmed I would need a hip impingement and labral tear procedure which was carried out in July 2015.”

“At home I progressed, but was advised during a follow up appointment that the damage to my hip was worse than expected and that eventually I would require a new hip, due to the wear and tear damage and arthritis.”

“Obviously at the age of 37 this was disappointing as I knew at my age it would be difficult for me to be considered for a hip replacement and that I would need to struggle for some time and that this would affect my life.”

“I continued to carry on with my 'normal life' but walked with a limp and had to plan all aspects of my life to ensure I could manage, missing out on certain activities as I was unable to manage the walk the distance or stand for long periods and also I was unable to wear certain types of shoes due to the limp walking over in my shoes.”

“I had a number of appointments with my GP and given some pain killers etc but nothing seem effective.”

After Paula lost 3 stone in weight she decided to go back to her GP as she was still struggling with general everyday tasks. Paula then asked her GP to be referred to see Mr A Ng at Spire Methley Park Hospital.

“My appointment with Mr Ng was on the 3 April 2017; at the appointment I had my x-rays and the information from my GP.”

“During the appointment Mr Ng was understanding of my situation.”

“My operation was on the 5 June 2017, where I spent two nights following my procedure, where I received excellent care, from my arrival to being discharged.”

“Following the operation I was uncomfortable to begin with, but with the support of the team on the ward I was mobile the day after my surgery and discharged on day three following my surgery.”

“The staff on the ward were fantastic and I feel Jenny my dedicated nurse and Lisa the health care assistant were fantastic and dealt with my needs and ensured I was made comfortable at all times. I am unsure of the name of the nurse during the night shift but I would like to mention how supportive and friendly she was.”

“The catering team were great and helped with my dietary needs.”

"Kate from the physio team who worked with me the days after my surgery was a great support and worked with me to help me progress and advised on how to progress at home on what my capabilities were.”

“I followed the exercises I had been provided and also built up my walking on the street on my crutches and progressed to one crutch before my two weeks physio appointment.

“Eight weeks following my surgery I had a follow up appointment with Mr Ng and was updates about the operation and how I should progress moving forward, and get back to “normal life”.

"I had a number of questions and these were all answered and following the appointment I returned my walking stick to the physio team.

“I feel really positive about my future and cannot thank Mr Ng for all he has done for me as I can only describe it as it has changed my life. I no longer walk with a limp and I am able to wear 'normal' footwear.”

“I have continued with my weight loos journey and have now manages to lose 79lbs to date an I am now able to continue further as I am not sedentary or in any pain in my groin /hip area. I am not doing any excessive form of exercise yet as I am only 12 weeks post-surgery but I am able to carry out some exercise on stationary bike and also increase my walking, pain free.”

“I may not do anything dramatic, like sky dive or run a marathon, but just to be able to walk and carry our day to day activities. And to go New York for my big birthday in April 2018 which I feel previously I wouldn’t of been able to achieve, also to be pain free is everything to me at the age of 39.”

“I would recommend the service at Spire Methley Park, from the first appointment to been discharged the service was outstanding and as I have said before I cannot thank Mr Ng for all he has done.”
