Spire Southampton Hospital maintains CQC rating as 'Good'

Spire Southampton Hospital has retained its ‘Good’ rating, following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Inspectors carried out an unannounced examination into services offered at the 67-bed hospital in July. They rated it ‘Good’ overall, and in each of the individual categories; safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The CQC praised colleagues for their kindness and compassion in caring for patients, for helping patients understand their conditions and for providing emotional support for them and their families.
The report noted that people were able to access services when they needed it and did not have to wait too long for diagnostic procedures.
Inspectors also noted that the hospital planned and provided care in a way that met the needs of the community it served, working closely with local organisations. They also singled out support provided for patients with dementia and learning disabilities, and provision of information in a range of languages to make services accessible to all members of the community.
Fiona Taylor, Hospital Director at Spire Southampton Hospital, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to retain our ‘Good’ overall rating and to have been assessed as being ‘Good’ across the board. It is a tribute to the hard work of all our colleagues and the fantastic way they have risen to all the challenges of the past year and a half.
“We now want to build on the CQC’s findings and aim for an ‘Outstanding’ rating, next time we are inspected.”
The hospital has four in-patient wards, six operating theatres, an outpatient department and a critical care unit – one of very few in the independent sector outside London. During the pandemic, it made its services available to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and provided treatment and diagnosis for tens of thousands of NHS patients.
