Specialises in
I am a specialist knee and hip surgeon with particular expertise in unicompartmental knee replacement, difficult knee replacement surgery including revision (re-do surgery) and hip replacement surgery.
I am an Edinburgh trained orthopaedic surgeon and was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 2017 after completing travelling fellowships to Massachusetts General Hospital and the Cartilage Repair Centre in Boston.
I have a busy NHS practice where I treat both patients with hip and knee arthritis and those with complex lower limb injuries and fractures. I am trained in both manual and robotic assisted knee replacement surgery and am enthusiastic about the benefits of partial knee replacement and joint preserving knee surgery.
I am an NHS Research Scotland clinician and continue to be an active researcher concentrating on maximising outcomes of joint replacement surgery and implant design. I received an MD from the University of Edinburgh for my research on partial knee replacement designs. I am regularly invited to present my work nationally and internationally.
I serve on the executive committee of the British Association for surgery of the knee.
I have won national awards for my research and was awarded the Hunter-Doig medal for excellence in surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2020.
