I am an internationally recognised Consultant Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist, with an outstanding career spanning clinical practice, research, innovation and medical education.
I am currently a Professor and Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of Endoscopy at Barts Health NHS Trust, based at Whipps Cross University Hospital in London, where I lead the development of advanced digestive disease services. I previously held the post of Honorary Reader at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, and continue to maintain close academic and research links with the university.
I have more than three decades of experience in gastroenterology, supported by a distinguished academic background. I completed my medical degree (MBBS), followed by postgraduate training in the UK, including an MMedSci at the University of Birmingham and a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. My doctoral research in gut mucosal immunology was funded by the World Bank and UK research councils and was internationally acclaimed for its contribution to understanding how immune responses in the gut influence inflammatory bowel disease and other gastrointestinal conditions.
I also hold a diploma in clinical education from the University of Leeds, reflecting my long-standing commitment to teaching and training.
Clinically, I specialise in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), IBS, gastrointestinal cancer, advanced endoscopy and complex digestive disorders.
As Director of Endoscopy at Whipps Cross, I have led the introduction of innovative technologies including AI-assisted endoscopy.
