MBBS, MRCS, MPhil, FRCS(Eng)
I have been a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon for six years, performing a high volume of laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and providing comprehensive emergency surgical care. This was aided by a national training number in General and Colorectal Surgery, during which I received an excellent grounding in general surgery, followed by advanced sub-specialty training in colorectal practice.
I am one of the leading specialists in the region for the management early rectal cancers, complex rectal polyps and the management of selected rectal cancer patients in the watch and wait pathway as part of organ preservation approach. This practice has been developed after I completed a dedicated fellowship in early rectal cancer and complex rectal polyp management, with a focus on local excision of rectal cancers and polyps with Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS). My fellowship also involved contributing to international research in rectal cancer organ preservation, including participation in major trials such as the STAR‑-TREC trial. This experience underpins my ongoing commitment to delivering high‑quality, minimally invasive colorectal cancer care and advancing modern approaches to rectal cancer management.
I am a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a high‑volume practice in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and serve as one of the main cancer surgeons within my unit.
My particular interest lies in rectal cancer, with expertise in the management of early rectal cancers and complex rectal polyps. I lead a dedicated referral service for these conditions, providing advanced treatments including local excision of rectal cancer and complex polyps using Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS).
I also run a watch‑and‑wait programme for selected rectal cancer patients as part of organ‑preserving treatment pathways.
In addition to my cancer practice, I am experienced in managing a full range of General surgical, colorectal and anorectal conditions, including hernias, management of diverticular disease, haemorrhoids, fistulae, and other benign anorectal disorders. My work focuses on delivering safe, effective, minimally invasive care tailored to each patient.
I have extensive experience in managing a comprehensive array of general and colorectal conditions, having performed over 2,000 operations across my career. My benign colorectal practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of haemorrhoids, anal fistulae, anal fissures, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease, alongside the management of abdominal wall and groin hernias. I also have significant expertise in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer, performing flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, formulating personalised management plans, and discussing all cancer cases within the colorectal multidisciplinary team (MDT). I have performed over 500 colorectal cancer resections, providing high‑quality, evidence‑based surgical care with a strong focus on safety, precision, and long‑term outcomes.
My practice is firmly rooted in patient‑centred care. I recognise that when people develop symptoms, they are often worried, uncertain, and afraid. I make it a priority to listen carefully, taking time to understand each patient’s fears, concerns, and personal circumstances. When formulating management plans, I work collaboratively with patients to ensure that the treatments offered are tailored not only to their clinical needs but also to their quality‑of‑life expectations, priorities, and lifestyle. My aim is to provide care that is compassionate, clear, and truly aligned with what matters most to each individual.
