I am a substantive Consultant General and upper GI Surgeon working at Walsall Manor Hospital, West Midlands with specialist interest in all aspects of weight loss surgery (Bariatric surgery) including Re-do or revision surgery for weight regain and complications related to the first surgery such as removal of gastric band, reconnection of gastric band and reversal of primary bypass procedure.
I have completed my training (Certificate of Completion of Training, CCT) in the West Midlands region rotating between different high volume tertiary surgical units covering all aspects of general surgery and upper GI surgery, including Royal College of Surgeons England approved fellowship in weight loss surgery from University Hospital of North Midlands.
I am experienced at managing complex gallbladder stone disease including common bile duct stone removal in patient with excess weight or with previous weight loss surgery or complicated Gallbladder, acid reflux disease, hiatus hernia repair, surgical feeding tubes for nutrition, and all types of abdominal wall hernias. I am part of the weight loss multi disciplinary team (MDT) as well as anti reflux MDT at Walsall Manor Hospital.
I specialise in keyhole (laparoscopic) general surgery (Gallbladder removal, common bile duct stone removal, hiatus hernia repair, anti reflux procedures and perform laparoscopic weight loss operations (sleeve gastrectomy, one anastomosis gastric bypass, roux-en-y gastric bypass, gastric band removals, conversion of gastric band to a bypass, conversion of gastric sleeve to a gastric bypass procedure, revision of gastric pouch, converting gastric bypass back to its normal anatomy (reversal), surgical feeding tubes for nutrition and all types of abdominal hernia (inguinal, femoral, umbilical/ventral, epi-gastric, spigelian and incisional hernia). Open as well as laparoscopic with sub-interest in patients with excess weight.
I am Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) accredited endoscopist and a trainer. I do general diagnostic Upper GI endoscopy both under sedation as well as under General Anaesthetic with sub interest in upper GI endoscopy for patients who needs assessment for weight loss surgery, hiatus hernia repair, anti reflux surgery prior to operation and assessment of complications post weight loss surgery, hiatus hernia, anti reflux surgery and endoscopically placed feeding tubes for nutrition.
To date I have performed overall well over 6,000 major and minor surgeries and I train resident surgeons.
I have performed over 500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, over 500 anti reflux, hiatus hernia repairs, weight loss related procedures sleeve gastrectomy, one anastomosis gastric bypass, roux-en-y gastric bypass, gastric band removals, conversion of gastric band to a bypass, conversion of gastric sleeve to a gastric bypass procedure, revision of gastric pouch, converting gastric bypass back to its normal anatomy (reversal), surgical feeding tubes for nutrition, as well as over 500 laparoscopic/open abdominal wall hernia repairs including inguinal, femoral, umbilical/ventral, epi-gastric, spigelian and incisional hernia with sub-interest in patients with excess weight.
I achieved an MSc in Medical Education in the UK. I am an educational and clinical supervisor for resident trainee doctors. I am Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) accredited endoscopist trainer, and I have published many articles in peer reviewed surgical journals. I have also presented at national and international level including invited presentations for surgical conferences.
