Mr Stephan Korsgen
Consultant Colorectal & Laparoscopic Surgeon
MD, FRCS, M Med Sc, CCST
I completed my training in the West Midlands, in all aspects of general surgery and colorectal surgery. In 1999 I was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Good Hope Hospital. Over the years I have developed extensive expertise in open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery mentoring trainees and colleagues throughout and have become a recognised trainer in laparoscopic surgery. My other main clinical interest is in local excision of benign and malignant rectal neoplasms. I have the biggest series of TEMS procedures (Transanal endoscopic surgery) in the Midlands and a large referral practice based at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust.
My upper gastrointestinal (GI) practice includes laparoscopic cholecystecomy and gastroscopy.
The main emphasis of my NHS practice is on colorectal cancer work and I’ve published several research papers in faecal incontinence and functional outcomes of restorative proctocolectomy and results of TEMS (Transanal endoscopic surgery).
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Stephan Korsgen at Spire include:
Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh
Association of Coloproctology
Association of Laparoscopic Surgery
Consultant Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Good Hope Hospital.
I am married with three daughters. Family life is very important to me, hence a lot of time is spent with my family. In my spare time I enjoy going for long walks, reading and playing the piano and as a committed Christian, I am involved in local church activities. My most recent achievement has been completing a mountain marathon in Switzerland to raise money for the Holy Trust Charity and a bowel cancer charity.
