I am a Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon based in Leeds, working in both NHS and private practice. My NHS work is at St James’ University Hospital, and I see private patients at Spire Hospital, Nuffield Hospital and Nova Healthcare. I also hold an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at the University of Leeds.
I qualified in medicine in 1998 and completed my postgraduate surgical training at the University of Delhi in 2002. After moving to the UK in 2003, I focused on urology, a specialty I am passionate about, and developed a strong research interest in bladder and prostate cancer. I went on to complete specialist training in urology and robotic surgery across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region.
To further develop my expertise in robotic surgery, I was awarded scholarships from The Urology Foundation and the Ralph Shackman Trust. These enabled me to visit leading centres of excellence in the United States and Europe, including institutions in Los Angeles, Buffalo, Seattle and Hamburg, where I gained valuable insight into advanced techniques.
Since my appointment as a Consultant Urologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in February 2015, I have specialised in pelvic oncology. A significant part of my work involves robotic surgery for both cancerous (malignant) and non-cancerous (benign) urological conditions. I played a key role in establishing the robotic cystectomy programme at St James’ University Hospital in 2016. This approach allows bladder removal and urinary reconstruction to be carried out using minimally invasive techniques, which has been associated with shorter hospital stays and improved recovery for patients.
I perform a wide range of robotic procedures, including surgery for prostate and bladder cancer, reconstructive procedures of the urinary tract and treatment for conditions such as varicocele. Alongside this, I also diagnose and treat common urological symptoms and conditions, such as raised PSA levels, lower urinary tract symptoms, benign prostate enlargement, blood in the urine or semen, prostatitis and phimosis. My practice also includes general urological procedures such as cystoscopy, bladder biopsies, TURP, TURBT and circumcision.
I am committed to delivering safe, high-quality care and regularly audit my surgical outcomes as part of both local and national governance processes. Alongside my clinical work, I have an active research interest and have published over two dozen papers. I was awarded an MD (Research) degree by the University of Leeds and have acted as a Principal Investigator in a number of clinical trials.
My aim is always to provide clear, personalised care, helping you understand your condition and supporting you in making informed decisions about your treatment.
