I was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon in 2009 after completing my higher surgical training in the UK. I had previously trained in India at the Armed Forces Medical College and served in the Indian Navy from 1987 to 1998. This included service on warships and naval hospitals.
I have been undertaking laparoscopic colorectal surgery since my appointment in 2009 and started the robotic surgery programme in Leicester in 2014. I introduced laser surgery for haemorrhoids, anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus disease in 2016 and have a large experience of treating all the above conditions.
My areas of expertise include minimally invasive surgery for bowel cancer, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, keyhole pouch surgery for Ulcerative colitis, surgery for large complex incisional and parastomal hernias, laser surgery for haemorrhoids, fistula in ano and pilonidal disease and diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.
I am a member of the Cohort Studies Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology since 2014 and was appointed as the International Representative to the Council of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland in 2023.
I am actively involved in research and the Primary Investigator for various research studies at Leicester. I also have an interest in Rectal cancer, Stoma Education and Global Surgery.

Personal profile
I am married with two children and enjoy driving, swimming and a bit of gardening when I have the time. I have a special interest in producing patient information videos and have produced a video for patients on recovery after bowel surgery and a new one on stomas for bowel surgery patients.
