I am an experienced Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. My practice includes the full range of general surgical procedures, particularly gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) and all types of hernia repairs—inguinal, umbilical, epigastric, incisional, and complex or recurrent hernias, both open and laparoscopic.
I also manage a variety of benign surgical conditions with a strong focus on patient safety and minimally invasive techniques. In addition to my general surgery work, I have extensive experience in colorectal surgery, including the diagnosis and management of bowel disorders such as colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.
I regularly perform colonoscopy and gastroscopy for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. With over 20 years of surgical experience and more than seven years as a consultant, I am committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care with compassion, clear communication, and an emphasis on excellent clinical outcomes.
I specialise in general and laparoscopic surgery with a particular focus on gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) and hernia repairs of all types — including inguinal, umbilical, epigastric, incisional, and complex or recurrent hernias — performed through both open and keyhole techniques.
I also provide specialist care in colorectal surgery, managing conditions such as bowel cancer, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as pilonidal sinus using advanced flap techniques. In addition, I perform diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and gastroscopy (OGD). My clinical approach prioritises minimally invasive surgery, enhanced recovery, and optimal functional outcomes for every patient.
I am an experienced Consultant General and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgeon, providing a broad range of surgical care with a particular focus on minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. My areas of expertise include gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) and hernia repair of all types — including inguinal, umbilical, epigastric, incisional, and complex recurrent hernias — I also provide specialist care for patients with colorectal conditions, including benign and malignant bowel disease, and perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (colonoscopy and gastroscopy) as a fully JAG-accredited endoscopist. In my NHS practice, I manage a wide range of complex colorectal and general surgical cases, including major bowel resections for cancer.
My private practice complements this by focusing on day-case and short-stay procedures, delivered with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid recovery, and clear communication. I believe in ensuring that every patient fully understands their diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery pathway before proceeding with surgery. As a surgeon, I have performed hundreds of hernia repairs and laparoscopic gallbladder operations, alongside a high volume of endoscopic procedures, all with an excellent safety record and very low complication rates. My approach combines technical precision with empathy and openness — qualities that help patients feel informed, reassured, and confident in their care. Alongside my clinical work, I have held several leadership and educational roles, including Head of Department (Clinical Lead) for General Surgery and Urology, where I oversaw service delivery, departmental governance, and long-term surgical planning.
I also serve as an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for Foundation Doctors, sat on ARCP panels, and hold an appointment as a Senior Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield. My commitment to surgical education has been recognised through excellent trainee feedback and successful postgraduate supervision, including an MSc thesis at the University of Edinburgh. I am passionate about maintaining the highest professional stand
In addition to my clinical work, I have a strong commitment to medical education. I have completed a Master’s in Medical Education (MMEd) from the University of Dundee, reflecting my dedication to advancing teaching and learning in medicine. I take great pride in continuously developing my own clinical skills and am particularly enthusiastic about robotic surgery.
Once a robotic system is available at Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust, I plan to advance my training and acquire new competencies, with a focus on transferring these skills to junior trainees in both theatre and ward-based settings.
Beyond medicine, I also take an active interest in healthcare entrepreneurship and support colleagues, particularly GPs and other healthcare professionals, who are developing healthcare related businesses. I enjoy offering advice and guidance in this area and have recently been involved in supporting a friend with a healthcare initiative.

I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and five children. We love going for walks in the Peak District, cycling together, and attending my sons’ Sunday football matches. I also enjoy jogging, going to the gym, swimming, and other physical activities with my children. On weekends, we often go out for meals and travel both locally and to other destinations, making the most of family time and enjoying life to the fullest.
