BSc, BMBS, MRCP, PhD
I am a consultant neurologist working at Spire Portsmouth Hospital as well as holding NHS posts at Southampton General Hospital and Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. I run general neurology clinics for the diagnosis and management of problems such as headaches, migraines, seizures, altered sensation and numbness, weakness, memory problems, tremors, funny turns, dizziness and balance problems.
I also work as part of the regional Stroke service at Southampton general hospital assessing and treating patients with acute stroke.
My subspeciality interest is in movement disorders. I run dedicated Parkinson's disease clinics at Queen Alexandra hospital where I see patients with new and recent diagnoses as well as those who have had the condition for many years, with more complex treatment needs.
I run a mixed movement disorders clinic in Southampton where I see patients with different movement disorders including tremor disorders, chorea and dystonia. I also run botulinum toxin clinics for the treatment of cervical dystonia and hemifacial spasm.
I trained at Brighton and Sussex medical school and completed neurology training in the Wessex Deanery. I also completed a PhD at the University College London Huntington's Disease Center in 2020 under the supervision of Professor Sarah Tabrizi, a world leader in the field.
My research was principally focused on detecting the earliest signs of the condition in young gene carriers of the condition to pave the way for early detection and treatment of the condition as well as supporting some of the first clinical trials that specifically targeted the genetic defect.
I received the prestigious Queen Square Prize in neurology for my PhD work.
I am the neurology departmental lead for clinical governance and effectiveness at University Hospital Southampton. I am also passionate about educating medical students and junior doctors in neurology. I run the educational programme for neurology trainees in the Wessex Deanery and also teach medical students at the University of Portsmouth.
