Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant ENT Surgeon at University Hospitals Bristol specialising in the care of adults and children with problems related to all aspects of ear, nose and throat surgery. I have specialist training and expertise in the areas of nasal and sinus surgery involving treatment for nasal blockage and endoscopic management of sinus disease and sinusitis.
I undertook international fellowship training in head and neck surgery as well as the management of throat, swallowing, voice, thyroid and salivary gland problems in both adults and children.
I qualified from Oxford University in 1989 after attending Magdalen College and received an MA in Physiological Sciences in addition to my medical degree. I started my ENT career with posts at St Mary’s Hospital, London and the Royal Marsden Hospital. My specialist registrar training was undertaken at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals with additional experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I then took up an International fellowship in Brisbane with Professor Coman at one of the biggest head and neck units in the world before being appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Bristol in 2002.
Prior to the completion of my training I was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Gold Medal in Laryngology for achieving the highest mark in the Intercollegiate fellowship examination.
Over the last 23 years I have been a core member of the head and neck multidisciplinary team in Bristol and have also served as clinical lead for the ENT department, Chairman of the head and neck cancer network, Honorary Senior lecturer at Bristol University and specialty training director for the Severn Deanery. I have also served on the national committee for the British Laryngological Association.
I work closely with my surgical and medical colleagues to provide a holistic approach which is particularly important when managing both adults and children with hearing, swallowing and voicing problems.
I continue to be involved with training and education and many of the consultant surgeons in the region have been trained by our department. I have been closely involved with this as training programme director and specialty tutor at University Hospitals Bristol.
I no longer offer cosmetic rhinoplasty. I will, however, still consider patients for post-trauma rhinoplasty.Â
