I have been the NHS Lead for Urogynaecology Services across Worcestershire for over 20 years and currently provide specialist private urogynaecology and benign gynaecology care in Worcester at Spire South Bank Hospital. I support women from Worcester, Worcestershire and across the UK with a full range of pelvic floor and bladder conditions.
My clinical expertise includes the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor prolapse, stress and urge urinary incontinence, bladder irritation and bladder pain, recurrent urinary tract infections (cystitis/UTIs), urinary leakage, menopause symptoms and HRT, abnormal vaginal bleeding, and vulval irritation and discomfort. I regularly manage complex, long‑standing problems and adopt an individualised, thoughtful approach with a strong emphasis on non‑surgical treatment wherever possible.
I offer the full range of investigations and treatments for pelvic floor and bladder problems in Worcester, including close links with specialist pelvic health physiotherapy, urodynamic studies, outpatient cystoscopy, non‑surgical treatments such as pessaries, and surgical treatment where appropriate. Some urinary incontinence procedures can be performed as day‑case treatments under local anaesthesia. I also work closely with colorectal colleagues for patients with concurrent bowel emptying problems and lead the Worcestershire multidisciplinary pelvic floor team meetings.
I strongly believe patients should never be rushed into decisions and prioritise time, education and shared decision‑making. I am happy to discuss issues surrounding mesh surgery, although it is important to note that the majority of procedures I perform do not involve mesh. Patients are provided with reliable, high‑quality information, including resources from the British Society of Urogynaecology (www.bsug.org.uk) and the International Urogynecological Association (www.iuga.org), to ensure realistic expectations before surgery is considered.
I qualified in Nottingham in 1990 and completed a specialist urogynaecology fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. I was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in 2000, with responsibility for developing county‑wide urogynaecology services. In 2010, Worcestershire became one of the first units in the UK to achieve external accreditation for urogynaecology, recognising excellence in outcomes, safety and service quality.
Nationally, I have served as Chair of the Audit Committee of the British Society of Urogynaecology, leading the development of the first UK national surgical outcomes database. I personally hold one of the UK’s largest datasets on surgery for prolapse and urinary incontinence.
I am committed to delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based urogynaecology care in Worcester and across Worcestershire, combining extensive experience with a compassionate and measured approach.
Further patient feedback can be viewed on my I Want Great Care profile.
