Specialises in
I am a highly experienced Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon, providing expert surgical care for patients with gallstones, hernias and acid reflux, as well as other upper gastrointestinal conditions. My approach uses advanced minimally invasive techniques to achieve faster recovery, less pain, and excellent long-term outcomes for patients.
I practise privately at Spire Norwich Hospital and am also based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I am Service Lead for General Surgery. I have led the development of new surgical services, and my work has been featured on BBC News and BBC Breakfast.
I specialise in the treatment of a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gallstones and gallbladder disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux (heartburn) and anti-reflux surgery, as well as oesophageal and gastric cancer. I also manage achalasia and other oesophageal motility disorders, along with groin (inguinal) hernias, hiatus hernias, and paraoesophageal hernias. In addition, I perform both diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
I established and lead the Upper Gastrointestinal Robotic Surgery service at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I have pioneered several regional firsts. Most notably, I performed the region’s first robotic oesophagectomy – a complex cancer procedure undertaken in only a small number of specialist centres across the UK. This work has been recognised in both local and national media and reflects my commitment to advancing surgical innovation and improving patient outcomes.
I trained at Imperial College London and completed specialist surgical training in Surrey and Sussex, followed by a robotic surgery fellowship in Newcastle upon Tyne, one of Europe’s leading centres for oesophagogastric cancer.
I hold a PhD from Imperial College London, where I researched the role of the gut microbiome in health, disease, and recovery following surgery. I was awarded the Sutherland-Earl Clinical Research Fellowship, and my work has been published in leading journals including Gut, Annals of Surgery, Nature Food, and Scientific Reports. I remain actively involved in clinical research, particularly in oesophagogastric cancer, surgical innovation, and post-operative outcomes.
Alongside my clinical and research work, I am committed to surgical education. I serve as Training Programme Director for Robotic Surgery and Endoscopy in the East of England and as Royal College of Surgeons College Tutor for General Surgery at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I support the training and development of future surgeons.
My approach is patient-centred, evidence-based, and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes – whether treating cancer, resolving reflux, or managing benign gastrointestinal conditions.
